Health Minister Plutarco Arias reported on Tuesday that some commercial houses are failing, so he has not specified the date the country will receive vaccines against COVID-19.
“Let me reserve that situation for me. There’s still a little bit of … some commercial houses have been failing,”.
He added that the most important thing now is that positivity in the country is waning and that the government will be vaccinating soon.
Arias was approached by journalists in the National Palace’s Hall of Ambassadors, where he participated in the reception ceremony of the President, Luis Abinader, for the winners of the Caribbean Series.
Vaccines pending from the Dominican Republic
Through AstraZeneca, Pfizer and the Global Access Fund for COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX), the country expects 20 million vaccines. Ten from AstraZeneca, eight from Pitzer and the remainder will be provided by COVAX.
At the end of last month, the Dominican Republic was expecting 25,000 initial vaccines from the Pfizer lab, which would be used on medical personnel but never arrived. Deliveries have still been delayed so far.
As for AstraZeneca, the country will receive an initial shipment of 10 million vaccines on March 21.
It is not yet known when they will arrive in the country and the remaining amount COVAX will contribute.
