Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito is leading an investigation into alleged corruption against former Finance Minister Donald Guerrero Ortiz and former general manager of the Banco de Reservas, Simón Lizardo Mézquita.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of the Republic reported this in a statement on Tuesday, indicating that Germán Brito led the interrogation of Guerrero Ortiz on Monday., investigated among the allegations of irregularity in its affidavit of assets, association of criminals, coalition of officials, embezzlement, fraud against the state, lies in public documents and money laundering resulting from crimes of administrative corruption.
Along with the Attorney General, magistrates Yeni Berenice Reynoso and Wilson Camacho, responsible for the National Prosecution Directorate of the Public Prosecution Service and the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), also participated in the questioning of Guerrero Ortiz .
The former finance minister has been summoned for tomorrow Wednesday, while Lizardo Mézquita has to appear for Pepca on Tuesday.
The action of the prosecution is based on a public complaint from the head of the general budget office, José Rijo Presbot, who warned of irregular payments to contractors, which took place in the final phase of Danilo Medina’s efforts (2012-2020), of about 21,000 million pesos, but the investigation extends to other events, the attorney general’s office said in its statement.
The above amount included 11,000 million pesos for the payment of hot asphalt concrete which was subsequently contracted by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) for a road construction plan.
The prosecution is conducting an extensive investigation of all criminal offenses, including interrogations of different persons mentioned in different cases.
For this week, the Directorate of Prosecution and Pepca will continue to question several Court officials. Juan Carlos Ventura, investigated in the corruption case against his ex-wife Kinsberly Taveras Duarte, former youth minister, will also be questioned..
The statement highlights that the prosecution directorate and Pepca, led by deputy prosecutors Reynoso and Camacho, have already filed charges of administrative corruption in the Pulpo case and are preparing to delve into the file on the misappropriation of public funds at the Metropolitan Office Bus Service (OMSA), in connection with the murder of lawyer Yuniol Ramírez Ferreras.
