Although the 2022 Caribbean Series is scheduled in Santo Domingo, the city of Santiago is still an opportunity to think about.

This is how Dominican Baseball League president Vitelio Mejía put it when Listín Diario asked him about respect, after Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez expressed interest that it could be set up in that city.

Mejía said a formal proposal should be made first, and then various issues analyzed, with accommodation and hotel capacity as the most important, among other important options.

For example, with regard to accommodation, Mejía specified that each team should be in a different hotel, the Confederation executive committee and the league presidents in another, while the referees will also occupy a separate hotel.

“We know that with Santo Domingo there are no issues in terms of accommodation, quantity and quality, because although we are a small country, we have this capacity because we are a small country but with a large influx of tourists”, he said. .

The meeting held in Mazatlán days ago by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation confirmed Santo Domingo as the venue for the 2022 Caribbean classic gathering.

“Starting tomorrow (today) we will start working towards this event as our goal is to provide fans with a great quality show, with a stadium consistent with the event, with affordable prices for ticket sales, food and drink” , Lidom’s president said, after speaking with Listín Diario.

He went on to state: “We will observe what the existing conditions are with the pandemic, as we will be, but we as a team in the League believe we can do things to assemble a good Caribbean Series, despite the inconveniences we have. have experienced. in the past. in recent years, “said Mejía.

“I think baseball is at a great time with the semi-finals, finals and Caribbean Series results, and I am pleased that it is because of the situation the world is currently going through with this case of the pandemic. , ”Added Vitelio.

Great protocol work

Likewise, Mejía appreciated the behavior of the entire delegation in that they were all negative when they flew to Mexico and when they returned to the Dominican Republic, they did so in the same way.

Lidom’s president said the tests were rehearsed on the departure for Mazatlán, when they arrived on the scene, and during the series.

“Together with Puerto Rico, we were the only delegation to bring a health team to Mexico to conduct tests on the entire delegation that was in the Series,” he added.

Likewise, health insurance was taken out so that in the event that some of the members tested positive, it would cover the internment as he would have to stay in a hospital for at least 10 days.

“Thank you there was no positive,” he added.

The team was led by Dr. Laura Mora, alongside Wilenny Batista, Eduardo Montaño, Cristina Saint Hilaire and Pedro Rossi, from the National Laboratory.

For the Dominican, it was their second Caribbean Series in a row, something they hadn’t achieved since the Aguilas won in Puerto Rico in 2007 and the Licey triumphantly played in Santiago the following year.

“All credit to the Eagles who have made a great team for Mazatlán, a team made up of several major leagues.

I trusted Paulino Vitelio was not one of those surprised when Carlos Paulino tied the hit that gave him the pass to the final, as in his portfolio he has him as one of the players who always react in such situations, he named Wilkin Castillo as another it always dissolves
