The Cuban actor Jorge Losada he needs medication to counteract a “major anemia” discovered in him, art director Luis Lacosta Alverich warned.

“ He came out of the operation very well, he has problems, he has been diagnosed with major anemia despite eating daily, it seems his body has a problem and they ordered him to take Inferon and Trofin or a Take another medicine so he can get out of the anemia, ‘Lacosta Alverich wrote on his Facebook wall.

Immediately several people responded to the publication, showing their solidarity with the actor, and coming up with ideas so that the drugs could arrive quickly.

“In the airport waiting room, shelves are full of Trofin, an iron supplement liquid with high blood compatibility, of national production. There is Trofin, but for those who have dollars,” wrote Manuel Iglesias Pérez.

Others offered to give him the medicine, such as Suyen Tartabull Valdés, a resident of Guanabacoa, who keeps a bottle of Trofin at home.

In recent years, there has been a shortage of medicines in Cuba, which the authorities justify with the difficult access of raw materials to the international market, the economic sanctions imposed by the US government and the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

That is why the official press is promoting its use of natural and traditional medicine alternatively in the absence of drugs.

Oral antibiotics, pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, antihistamines and anxiolytics are currently the rarest in the country.

Faced with the national deficit, Cubans have to pay more for drugs sold on the informal market or buy them in dollars from international pharmacies, at prices inaccessible to many citizens.

Jorge Losada (1933) received his Bachelor of Arts in Texas, United States, and graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Havana. His acting, which began as a radio speaker in the 1950s, also includes theater, film and television.

In the eighties he did important work as a comedian for the Music Theater of Havana. He was part of the series of actors of the humorous program Kicking the can, for four years. His film career started in 1964 with the Cuban-Soviet film I am Cuba, considered one of the most important film productions on the island.
