Rasmussen Center available for vaccination appointments

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Appointments at the four vaccination clinics in Douglas County are filling up quickly this month.

Beginning Saturday, most openings are available to Douglas County residents aged 75 and older on February 20-27 at the Rasmussen Center in Creighton, near 17th and Mike Fahey streets. The Douglas County Health Department is encouraging people to sign up for those clinics this month.

“Most vaccine sites are fully booked, but there are more openings by the end of February,” the department said in a press release Friday.

Residents still need to schedule an appointment through the county’s health department.

Seniors like Mike Collins got their first dose on Saturday. He says it was easy to register online with the help of a family.

“It’s very fast, it’s over and I feel better about it,” said Collins.

Only a few appointments have been booked so far at the Rassmussen Center later this month. Expect students to help you check-in and vaccinate.

“The fact that [students] even seeing and participating in a process of what it’s like to do a massive vaccination clinic is unheard of, ”said Dr. Mike Miller, director of emergency medical services and education.

The third and final step of the clinic at the Rasmussen Center is recovery, which is typical of vaccination sites. Seniors sit after receiving their dose, and students check them for about 15 minutes to make sure they have no side effects or allergic reactions from the vaccine.

Seniors like Mike Collins only have one more dose to go until they are fully vaccinated. People are scheduled for their second dose before they leave the facility and go home.

Creighton offers parking and a shuttle to the Rasmussen Center, click here for more information.

The Douglas County Health Department requires residents to sign up for appointments. None of the clinics accept walk-ins.

“Camping” for unused doses is not allowed. Excess doses go to critical infrastructure workers.
