The Dominican Film Selection Commission (CDSF), appointed by the Directorate General of Cinema (DGCINE), has selected the Dominican film “Papi”, directed by Noelia Quintero and produced by Rafael Elías Muñoz, to represent the Dominican Republic in the delivery number. 63 of the Ariel Prize 2021.
The Ariel is an award that the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences has instituted since its inception in 1946 to publicly recognize the directors, creators, performers, technicians and creators of all Mexican films. Each year, the award recognizes the best of Ibero-American Cinematography in the “Best Ibero-American Film” category, and awards a Silver Ariel.
“I would like to thank Lantica Media for her interest in participating in the call and the CDSF for expressing the final verdict that the feature film“ Papi ”is our candidate. A film based on our Rita Indiana novel ”, were the words of DGCINE CEO Yvette Marichal.
The DGCINE has opened a call on January 19, 2021 for those Dominican film productions released between January 1 and December 31, 2020. Interested filmmakers sent the corresponding requirements and the CDSF selected the film that will represent the country.
The criteria to be assessed include the dignified representation of the country, the plot quality, the local and international projection and the artistic quality.
