The iOS 14.5 public beta allows Apple Watch users to try the new mask-friendly Face ID

The public betas of iOS and iPad OS 14.5 are out, giving eligible users a first taste of auto-unlocking their iPhone while wearing a face mask. The system, such as 9to5Mac just needs to be activated in the settings menu and you can then use an unlocked Apple Watch on your wrist as a key. That way, when you’re on the go and don’t try to give anyone COVID-19, the hassle of manually entering your passcode is spared.

Other new features in the update include support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X controllers for iOS games, as well as AirPlay 2 support for Fitness + classes. You also get a new Type to Siri interface that now appears on your current screen, instead of swinging your way into the void of Siri. Of course, you also get a bundle of quality of life updates such as Sorting Memories, a tweaked Podcast app, and more. All of this will eventually make its way to users when Apple sees fit.
