KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Chiefs assistant linebackers coach Britt Reid was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in which two young children were injured less than two days before the team was scheduled to depart for Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida.
Reid, 35, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, has been on the team’s coaching staff since his father for the 2013 season.
The Chiefs confirmed in a statement to 41 Action News Friday that Reid was involved in a crash Thursday night.
“The organization has been notified of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach Britt Reid. We are in the process of collecting information and we will not have any further comments at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. “
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday on Interstate 435 southbound near Eastwood Trafficway, an exit south of the Chiefs’ practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex.

According to Kansas City, Missouri police, there was a Chevrolet Impala that ran out of gas in the driveway from Stadium Drive to I-435.
The driver had called on family for help, who arrived in a Chevrolet Traverse and parked in front of the disabled car.
While trying to get the vehicle working again, a white Dodge Ram Laramie Sport pickup truck hit the entrance driveway – which Britt Reid had admitted to police driving under a warrant – the left front of the stranded Impala.
The driver of the stranded vehicle was in the car at the time and was not injured, but the Ram truck drove on and also hit the rear right side of the Traverse.
According to KCPD, a 5-year-old child in the backseat of the Traverse suffered life-threatening injuries and a 4-year-old, also in the backseat, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
An adult passenger in the front seat of the Traverse was not injured in the crash. Reid suffered non-life-threatening injuries, researchers said.
KCPD said investigators were trying to determine whether driver restriction was a factor in the crash, which closed off three of the freeway’s four lanes.
According to a search warrant filed just before midnight Thursday, a KCPD officer said they could smell “a faint odor of alcoholic beverages” and that Britt Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and red.
Britt Reid told the officer that he had had two to three drinks according to the search warrant. He also said he took prescription Adderall.
The officer wrote in the warrant that he observed signs of damage, after which Reid complained of stomach pain and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment.
Once at the hospital, the officer requested a blood sample from Britt Reid and a judge in Jackson County approved the request. The search warrant also states that a “computer check … revealed multiple previous DUI contacts.”
Law enforcement also closed the ramps from I-70 to I-435 south, along with other interstate ramps in the area to investigate and clear the wreckage.
The Chiefs will leave for Tampa on Saturday, where Kansas City will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium.
According to a report by Jason La Canfora, Britt Reid will not go with the team.

A graduate of Temple University, Britt Reid worked as an intern in the training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles on Andy’s staff in 2009. For the next two years, he worked as an assistant assistant at his alma mater before joining the Chiefs’ staff in 2013.
Britt Reid spent his first two seasons in Kansas City as a defensive quality control coach. He was promoted to assistant defensive line coach in 2015.
During 2016-18, Britt Reid served as the Chiefs’ defensive line coach before transitioning to coach external linebackers for the last two seasons.
Britt Reid was arrested on January 30, 2007 for aiming a gun at another driver during a reported incident on the road in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
He pleaded guilty later that year for carrying a firearm without a license, felony and other crimes, with a term of imprisonment of eight to 23 months plus five years probation.
