Egan Bernal spoke about participating in the Giro d’Italia 2021 – Cycling – Sport

Egan Bernal was confirmed in the Ineos team that will be in the Giro d’Italia 2021, which will take place from 8 to 30 May.

The Colombian cyclist, who is part of the Italian lot for the first time, felt at ease with the decision that was communicated by the organization of the team.

“I think it is the best decision. I wanted to compete in the Giro since I turned pro in 2016. Even in the year I won the Tour de France in 2019, I had to participate in the Giro, but events from the past did not work out, ” he told www.cyclingnews.com

And I add: ““Last year was very difficult for me because of the problems I had with my back. We analyzed the situation and I think we can all agree it was mIt’s better for me to focus on the races that I really enjoy participating in. The Giro is without a doubt one that I have been waiting for a long time and psychologically it has given me a boost ”.

Bernal was scheduled to participate in the 2019 Giro, but a fall and a broken collarbone prevented him, he went to the Tour de France and won it.

“It seems that every time I think about taking part in the Giro something happens, but I don’t let that play into my mind. I love it and I am very happy to focus on it, very motivated by the prospect of finally competing, ”he noted.
