The Blue Jays are not giving up on Yadier Molina

The Toronto Blue Jays have not given up on their mission to sign all-star Puerto Rican receiver Yadier Molina.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Canadian organization remains in touch with the 38-year-old free agent, who has 17 Major League-seasons, all with St. Louis.

“He is expected to return to St. Louis, where he is an icon. But nothing is assured and there are still a few teams at stake, ”said Heyman’s tweet.

Last week, Molina confirmed to El Nuevo Día that San Luis was offering him a one-year contract. The nine-time National League Gold Glove is betting on a two-season deal.

Jon Morosi, also from MLB Network, reported last Friday that Molina hopes to sign with the Cardinals once he finishes his participation in the Caribbean Series in Mazatlán, Mexico. The Doradeño is active with the Criollos de Caguas. But Molina’s agent, Melvin Román, told this newspaper on the same day that talks with San Luis have made slight progress.

Toronto looks like an attractive square for Molina. Led by Puerto Rican Charlie Montoyo, a 2020 Manager of the Year award finalist, the Blue Jays have just signed star outfielder George Springer for five years. In addition, the ninth features promising players such as Cavin Biggio, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. His starting receiver is Danny Jansen.

The Blue Jays returned to the postseason for the first time since 2015 last year.

St. Louis, for its part, made a mega-change by bringing in star third baseman Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies. They also signed veteran starter Adam Wainwright for one year. However, they lost to second baseman Kolten Wong, who reached a two-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
