Consumers report that the masks only appear in a plain brown envelope, labeled Amazon and China. However, there is no invoice or paperwork, just the face mask.
The Better Business Bureau reports that this is the latest item to be delivered in what is known as the cleaning scam.
It is a scam where companies, often external overseas sellers, send cheap items by mail to addresses they find online. Their goal is to try to boost their reviews with amazon.
Once the items are received, they post false, positive reviews to improve their rating, which could add up to more sales.
We have warned you about this scam several times over the years.
During the summer, shipments of seeds from China were used in the cleaning scam.
Viewers have also received other items such as fake gold looking rings and other trinkets.
If this happens to you, change your Amazon password to be on the safe side. You can also contact Amazon customer service and report it as a fraudulent purchase.
Of course, if you get one of these masks you should just throw it away because you just don’t know where it’s been.
Additionally, according to the FTC, you are allowed to keep something that you did not order if it was sent specifically to your name and address and you have no money for it.
