In 2016, when the Apple Watch was still a relatively new device, Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie came up with a high-quality mechanical Apple Watch clone called the Swiss Alp Watch, featuring a rectangular dial with curved, rounded edges, a crown Apple Watch-style side and lugs.
H. Moser & Cie today debuted a sequel to the original Swiss Alp Watch, introducing the $ 30,800 Swiss Alp Watch “Final Upgrade,” which the company says is the “climax of the Swiss Alp Watch saga.”
Using the same rectangular design as the Apple Watch and the original Swiss Alp Watch, the Final Upgrade was made after a H. Moser & Cie customer suggested the design. The steel DLC case features a Vantablack dial and for those unfamiliar with Vantablack, it is considered one of the darkest fabrics known, absorbing up to 99.965 percent of visible light.
Rather than a traditional seconds hand, the Final Upgrade has an Apple Watch-style charging symbol, which of course pokes fun at the Apple Watch. In his marketing material H. Moser plays on the theme of simplicity and “less is more”.
“No updates needed, no crappy autonomy, no unnecessary functions, no annoying notifications, just the only reminder you will ever really need: disconnect from all the noise and cherish every moment,” the watch describes.
The loading wheel, or “shaded disk made of openings,” is meant to “serve as a reminder that the only thing that matters here and now.”
The Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade is fully mechanical with a 100% Swiss Manufacture movement and a 96-hour power reserve. H. Moser & Cie has made just 50 of the Final Upgrade watches, with more information on the company’s website.
