Argenis’s lawyers assure that he has voluntarily returned to the country

Argenis Contreras’s team of lawyers, accused of being the author of the murder of college professor Yuniol Ramírez, assured this Tuesday that the defendants have voluntarily returned to the country.

The lawyers stated that they had contacted Contreras a few days ago, at which point the suspect was already conducting procedures to return to the Dominican Republic.

They also said that neither they nor their client were aware that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) was in the process of moving him to Dominican territory. However, they stated that the defendant is willing to face the charges against him and clarify the situation.

“Argenis came up with the legal situation to clarify it. He was unaware that the PGR was making a lawsuit to bring him (to the country). We did not know, Argenis did not know either ”, said one of the lawyers.

In addition, they confirmed that in the event that such a procedure exists, the prosecution should contact the defendant’s team of attorneys, or the defendant himself, to notify him.

They added that their presence in the prosecution is due to the fact that the interrogation between the PGR authorities with Argenis started this afternoon.

Contreras arrived in the country this morning with a group of deportees to the country, where they are received by the Chief of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, at the Americas International Airport ( AILA), to carry out his official arrest.

Contreras fled to the United States to evade legal proceedings when he has charges against him for the kidnapping and murder of Ramírez among other alleged corruption acts.

Argenis’s wife, Heydi Carolina Peña, was involved in the above crime; José Mercado Blanco (El Grande), Víctor Elisander Ravelo Campos (“El Herrero”) and Jorge Luis Abreu Fabián (“DJ and El Taxista”), all accused of hiding the accused today.
