Silento, the rapper best known for ‘Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)’, is accused of murdering his cousin

The 23-year-old, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, was arrested Monday after police investigated the death of his 34-year-old cousin, Frederick Rooks, according to a statement from DeKalb County police.

Police responded to a call about a Jan. 21 shooting and found Rooks with multiple gunshot wounds lying on a road in the Atlanta suburb of Panthersville, Georgia, according to an incident report from DeKalb County Police Department. Rooks was pronounced dead on the spot, the report said.

According to the report, security camera images of nearby homes were captured before several high-speed vehicles fled the scene.

Police said in a statement that Silentó was later identified as a suspect.

Investigators have not yet established a motive for the shooting.

Silentó was put in prison on Monday and is currently being held there on a murder charge, prison records show. The authorities charged him with murder.

Silentó has had to deal with the law several times in recent months.
