Joss Whedon’s HBO series The Nevers – which he created and then left in the middle of production due to the general stress of making a big TV show in the middle of a pandemic – gets a first trailer. While still attached, Whedon called it “the most ambitious story” he had ever made.
The Nevers takes place in Victorian London, where people – mostly women – suddenly manifest magical abilities. Known as the ‘Touched’, they must find a place for themselves in the midst of rigid (and downright sexist) Victorian society, with widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) leading the way. The first trailer is full of fist fights, jaw-dropping Victorian ball gowns, and the general mystique of a gas lamp fantasy. Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Denis O’Hare (American horror story), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), and Nick Frost (Busy hassle) also star.
The show will debut with six episodes on HBO in April and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
