McDonald’s Shamrock Shake: This is when it comes back

Starting February 15, the Favorite Milkshake and an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry will be available for purchase in U.S. restaurants for a limited time. These limited-time offers, which include not only holiday items, but specials like the McRib and celebrity meals, help McDonald’s create buzz and drive sales.

Shamrock Shake and the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry return on February 15th.

McDonald’s began selling the Shamrock Shake in 1970. Over the years, the burger chain has brought back the original as well as variations such as the “Shamrock Sundae” in 1980, a chocolate version in 2017 and the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry in 2020. The Shamrock Shake first entered national sales in 2012.

Fast food chains are constantly competing for customers’ dollars and attention, and special offers are one way of trying to get through the noise.

McDonald’s (MCD)has unveiled many items in this category in recent months, including spicy chicken nuggets and celebrity meal deals featuring singers J. Balvin and Travis Scott. The offers create “menu excitement that keeps customers engaged,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said during McDonald’s most recent earnings call. Sales in US restaurants that have been open for at least a year were up 5.5% in the fourth quarter from the previous year.
The Shamrock Shake is part of a big month for McDonald’s, which is expected to roll out three new chicken sandwiches on Feb. 24.
