God of War is getting a PS5 optimization patch tomorrow

Sony’s reboot from God of war, one of the most popular first-party exclusives released on PS4, is getting an update tomorrow, allowing the hit of 2018 to take advantage of the PS5’s hardware, Sony’s Santa Monica Studio announced in a blog post today.

With the new update, early adopters of the PlayStation 5 can play the game in 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second. If you own a copy of PS4 digitally or physically, you will receive the update at no additional cost. Santa Monica Studio also announced today that users are downloading those God of war through the PlayStation Plus Collection can access the PS5 optimization patch.

The blog post also mentions that PS5 owners will be able to access the original PS4 graphics by selecting “Original Performance Experience”, which will play the game in 4K resolution at just 30fps.

God of war isn’t the only PS4 exclusive to receive a next-gen focused update. The latest title from Sucker Punch Productions, Spirit of Tsushima, also received a PS5-optimized patch last year, allowing the game to run at 60fps if you own a PS5.
