Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is the single leading cause of death without effective treatment or cure. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than five million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s in the United States.

Life is a gift, even with Alzheimer’s. Thanks to Susan (wife) and my family for their support, and @AARP The Magazine for telling my story, ”the singer wrote on Twitter.

Encouraged by his team of neurologists, Bennett has continued to sing and play music at home to stimulate his brain in a positive way. He also follows a special diet and regularly exercises with a trainer.

Bennett’s wife, Susan, and their oldest son, Danny, also spoke to the magazine and described how Bennett could perform onstage even when confused.
