The state does not report a total number of ‘recovered’ coronavirus patients. On Sunday, 6,101 Floridians were currently hospitalized for a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, with a state total of 72,294 ever hospitalized for treatment.

Vaccination efforts are continuing statewide. On Saturday, 17,574 patients received their first vaccination dose in Florida, for a total of 1,364,416. Meanwhile, 5,047 more people received their second and final dose, meaning 314,528 completed both rounds.

The number of new cases generally fell in the fall, which is in line with the number of tests given. But it has started to increase again.

The percentage of positive new tests has fallen from its peak in the summer and remained below 10% for several months, but reached that point again during the holiday season and in 2021. It was 5.54% on Saturday, the most recent available date.

After a peak in July, the number of deaths in August also began a downward trend that continued into November – although “significant delays” in data reporting, as the state says, make the interpretation of short-term trends from that statistic less reliable. The 272 new deaths reported Friday were the largest one-day increase in the pandemic.

Editor’s Note: The number of new cases and deaths reported each day does not necessarily reflect the day the case was confirmed. The state says some private testing labs are dumping large amounts of test results, including cases from earlier days, and it can take days or weeks for data to be validated. Statistics for today and prior days are likely to change in the future as the state reviews more cases and updates data retroactively.

The state’s death rate represents Florida permanent residents who have died from COVID-19.
