Mexican authorities say gunmen on two motorcycles started a weekend party and robbed those in the house, returned minutes later and opened fire, killing six men and a woman.
MEXICO CITY – Gunmen on two motorcycles burst into a weekend party and robbed those at the house, then returned minutes later and opened fire, killing six men and a woman, authorities in north central Mexico reported Sunday.
Jalisco prosecutors said the attack was late on Saturday. Jalisco has long been home to the cartel of the same name, but the attack took place close to the border with Zacatecas state, where several drug gangs have fought over territory.
Several people were injured in a shooting of an anther in the neighboring state of Michoacan. State police said three attackers opened fire on partygoers in the city of Uruapan. Local media reported that there were children at the party and among the injured.
While authorities in most states in Mexico discouraged holding parties during the coronavirus pandemic, there has been little enforcement. Mexico’s federal government has discouraged states from arresting or fine people for such behavior.
