According to a police report of the murder, officers found a woman and her two children with gunshot wounds in a house on block 700 of Jessie Street on Saturday afternoon when they responded to a medical emergency.
Two of the victims, a woman in her thirties and a girl in her early teens, were pronounced dead on the spot. A boy between the ages of 8 and 12 was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
An officer had gone to the house an hour earlier to conduct a welfare check after a concerned Tennessee relative called. But the woman said she was okay and refused to call her family on the officer’s phone.
