MGM To Make Wall Street Chaos Movie Over GameStop Stock – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: After one of the craziest weeks in Wall Street history, Hollywood has already set its sights on the wild story with a familiar face it wants to tell. Sources tell Deadline that MGM acquired the book proposal after a competitive situation The antisocial network from New York Times bestselling author Ben Mezrich, who tells one of the biggest news stories of the year, about a group of amateur investors, gamers and internet trolls that brought Wall Street to its knees. Although the story is barely a week old, insiders say Mezrich and his representatives released the proposal at the end of the week and MGM quickly moved on Friday night to acquire the rights.

The project reunites MGM’s Michael DeLuca with Mezrich, author of The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale Of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal, which was adapted into Academy Award-winning The social network that DeLuca produced.

AMC Stock Roars Back As GameStop Resumes Frenzy; Silver Lake sells full stake on runup update

This last story strikes me in Mezrich’s alley and started when a group of rag-tag investors called from the Reddit page Wall Street betting teamed up to put pressure on at least two hedge funds that had bet Gamestop shares would fall. the hedge funds had shortened GameStop’s stock, gambling that the stock was doomed to fall further, these amateur investors led by the Reddit page began to go the other way, buying stocks and stock options. That has seen GameStop’s market value up more than 1,700% since December. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, its market value rose by more than $ 10 billion.

The fun didn’t stop there as more newcomers to the stock game started looking to other stocks considered obsolete or super low like Nokia and AMC to do the same, sparking a great deal of controversy when the trading app RobinHood started throttling restrictions on to impose on certain stocks.

It is unknown where Mezrich’s story begins and ends, but it is certainly one that is as current as possible and clearly was something Hollywood was pleased with so quickly.

Aaron Ryder of Ryder Picture Company (RPC), Academy Award nominee, who recently signed a first look movie deal with MGM, will produce. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss will executive produce through their Winklevoss Pictures production banner. The project is known as a priority for MGM’s DeLuca and Pamela Abdy. Johnny Pariseau will supervise the studio. The book is expected to go up for auction at the publishers in February.
