In the past, when I had to use Street View, I usually tried to jump to my desktop. While the Street View feature worked in Android’s Google Maps, using it was often confusing simply because I couldn’t see where I was going. Google has finally added a split view mode for Street View on Android, making the feature a lot easier to use.

To use the split screen view, simply tap the Street View window when you find the right place in Google Maps, then tap the circular expand / condense button that appears at the bottom right of Street View. Once split view is open, you will see where you are on the map and which direction you are facing. It works in landscape, as you can see in the hero image, although the portrait orientation seems more intuitive here. Also pay attention to the Street View placeholders, although they are not brand new.

What Street View used to look like on Android

We see this new view on Maps v10.59.1, which you can download from APK Mirror here, and the split screen view appears to be live for everyone. The two screenshots above show the old user interface on v10.43.7; you can see the obvious lack of an expand / condense button for the split view in there. It took a while for Google to implement this, but we’re glad it’s finally here.
