Wayne Ellington fires back to Klay, Draymond for Rodney McGruder’s comments

Rodney McGruder’s decision to walk to the Warriors bench after last night’s loss at Chase Center and a post-game conversation with Juan Toscano-Anderson drew significant criticism from both Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Detroit Pistons security guard Wayne Ellington, for whom McGruder apparently stood up by walking to the Warriors’ bench after the game, had some strong words for Thompson and Green during a Sunday morning media outing.

“First of all, I find it very unprofessional and certainly not stylish for someone to attack Rodney’s professional career as it was attacked,” Ellington told reporters Sunday (h / t Detroit News / Rod Beard).

“To be honest, the man over there, Juan, is the one who started the whole thing. Rod is a man of respect, just like me, and I felt like he took offense at everything the man said to me in the first half. .

“For Draymond to sit up there and talk all that crazy stuff behind a microphone, I think that’s fake tough stuff, to be honest.”

After McGruder came to the Warriors bench and had a brief chat with Toscano-Anderson before being led away by team executives, Klay had the perfect response during the broadcast.

Draymond doubled up in his post-game press conference, wondered why McGruder was the “tough guy” for the Pistons, and said something to the bench after the game.

After Ellington’s response, Green will likely get his own the next time the Warriors make him available for comment.
