NFL Rumors: Here’s the Texans base price for Deshaun Watson

The Detroit Lions acquired two first-rounders within the trade package they received in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

The Houston Texans also reportedly would like a few first-rounders to say goodbye to their franchise quarterback, and a whole lot more.

The NFL’s quarterback carousel spun around Saturday when the Los Angeles Rams paid a fairly high price for Stafford. Many wondered how the blockbuster could potentially affect the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, which are not yet to really take shape. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle answered that question Sunday while also suggesting the bare minimum it would take to act for Watson.

You could say the package McClain is driving is a steal. Yes, it would be one of the richest returns in the history of the league, but Watson is poised to become a top-five quarterback for the next decade-plus. You really can’t put a price tag on unambiguously documenting your quarterback situation for the foreseeable future.

That is probably why the Texans are “not interested” in trading Watson. But if the three-time Pro Bowl roster is hard to leave Houston, he’ll likely be able to work his way out.
