Haiti’s Foreign Minister confirms that migration and trade are key issues in relations with the Dominican Republic

Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Claude Joseph, affirmed that migration and trade are priority issues in relations with the Dominican Republic as both countries progress optimistically into a new phase of collaboration and cooperation.

The Haitian Foreign Minister spoke in this regard during his participation in the celebration of a round table discussion on the topic “Migration and Trade at the Heart of Haitian-Dominican Relations: Analysis, Problems and Perspectives” organized by the Haitian-Dominican Mixed Commission, chaired by Marie-Andrée Amy.

Migration and trade are two major issues in Haitian-Dominican relations, Foreign Minister Claude Joseph Joseph recalled in his speech, adding that these are the two issues that most mark the differences between the two countries.

He indicated that the priority issues for Haiti in the current bilateral agenda are the regularization of the status of Haitian students and workers, the guarantee and protection of the integrity of the respective areas, cooperation on health, border development and trade rehabilitation, including a greater access for Haitian products to the Dominican market.

The minister also took the opportunity to point out that “relations between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic remain at the forefront of Haiti’s foreign policy priorities”.
