The University of Connecticut health system is canceling COVID-19 vaccination appointments due to shortages.
On the website of the COVID-19 vaccine program, UConn Health said its weekly vaccine allocation is being cut due to product shortages at the state and federal levels.
All appointments for the first vaccination doses scheduled for Monday through February 8 will be canceled and no new appointments for the first doses will be accepted. The health system said decisions about canceling additional appointments will be made after February 8 next week.
UConn Health said it plans to fulfill its commitments to those scheduled to receive second doses.
About 300,000 people in Connecticut have received their first doses of coronavirus vaccine as of Friday, according to Gov. Ned Lamont’s (D) office. About 64,000 have received their second.
The state is currently vaccinating health care workers, residents of long-term care facilities, medical workers and persons 75 years of age and older.
Connecticut has reported 250,023 positive COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 7,046 deaths.
Lamont said Thursday that he was considering relaxing some of the state’s coronavirus restrictions, including ending numerical limits for houses of worship and lifting the 10pm curfew for restaurants.
