Tegucigalpa, Honduras
The Presidential Designated Person, Ricardo Alvarez, convinced that the elimination of the preliminary election results transfer system (Trep) in the next first elections is an undemocratic measure and a setback in Honduras’ political history.
The Chairman of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Rixi Moncada, announced that the Trep will not be applied in the next election on March 14, as the tender to hire the companies that would start it was declared unsuccessful.
“However, I think eliminating that system is an undemocratic decision and a setback in the political life of the country. It also sends a signal of little transparency about what can happen if the parties get in the way,” he warned .
The campaign coordinator of the nationalist movement “Juntos Podemos”, headed by the President of the National Congress, Mauricio Oliva, said: “I would like 100% of the election results to be passed on by the Trep”.
He also condemned that “there are clear interests in leaning towards the candidacies of mayors, deputies and presidents, which could generate that the will of the people, and that is what we want to reflect in the minutes, is not the one given. . ”
“It’s sad because they made a totally wrong, undemocratic, anti-modern decision that shows that we are not taking the right steps a few days before the election,” he said.
Alvarez said: “I don’t understand the logic behind this situation because from the beginning they started to discredit some internationally renowned companies and from then on they started to arouse suspicion until they remove the trep”.
“I believe that we will have to look for a number of mechanisms within the National Party to guarantee our guarantee Trep internally one of them would be to take a picture of each of the minutes, at least in our move that will be done and the instructions will be issued in this regard, ”he said.
