Kelly Dodd’s proclamation that she is a black woman at the season 15 “Real Housewives of Orange County” reunion did not appeal to most viewers, including her own stepdaughter.
Veronica Leventhal, the daughter of Dodd’s husband Rick Leventhal, took to Instagram shortly after the reality star claimed she can’t be racist against black people because she’s black herself, making several key points that challenge Dodd’s reasoning.
However, she will certainly never mention her stepmother’s name.
“I don’t think it’s okay for people who say they’ve been through racism and prejudice and then turn around and inflict that same bigotry on other people,” Veronica began in a clip reposted to Twitter. ‘I don’t think you can experience the privileges of whiteness and then turn around and deny that those privileges exist.
“I don’t think you can claim possession of a culture or nationality and then deny privileges to those people, either through political perspectives or by submitting them in other ways. And I don’t think you can use your multiculturalism as a shield from people who say you have prejudices. “
She concluded, “If you’re going to argue about racism, you need to have a basic understanding of the difference between race, ethnicity, and nationality.”
Prior to her October wedding to Leventhal, Dodd was beaten for wearing a ‘Drunk Wives Matter’ hat to her bridal shower. She also came under fire for a 2016 clip that surfaced again, claiming that she “[doesn’t] like black guys. “
“I don’t even know black guys,” she said.
Dodd also previously claimed she experienced “racism” as “a woman of color.”
