IMPORTANT NEWS. Tomorrow’s game against Texas has been eliminated. Kentucky just announced that the game has been canceled due to positive cases within the Kentucky program. Kentucky is now on a 48-hour break. Here is the press release:
Kentucky’s men’s basketball program has been put on a 48-hour hiatus, including the cancellation of Saturday’s game against Texas, due to a combination of positive testing, contact tracking, and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the program. The decision is in line with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 and UK Athletics COVID-19 management requirements.
The SEC’s COVID-19 Management Requirements, as developed by the SEC’s Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force, are available at SECsports.com (PDF). The health and safety of Wildcat student athletes, coaches and staff remains UK Athletics’ No. 1 priority.
Ticket holders in the UK will receive further communication via email, including if additional changes are made to the Kentucky schedule during the season. Given the unusual nature of this season – particularly the current unknowns regarding postponed matches being moved or canceled games being replaced – UK Athletics appreciates the continued support, flexibility and understanding of its cardholders. For matches that have been canceled and not rescheduled, UK Athletics will evaluate the credit and refund options for the ticket portion of the end-of-season payment.
This is the first cancelation of the season for Kentucky. The UK’s previously scheduled games against Detroit Mercy and South Carolina were postponed due to COVID-19 safety protocols within those programs. Catch-up dates for those games have not been set.
