YouTube. Suspend Donald Trump’s channel indefinitely

Mexico City /

The YouTube video hosting platform has indefinitely suspended Donald Trump, US media reported, while his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, will no longer be able to make money from his recordings.

YouTube, which first suspended the chain of the now-former president (2.77 million subscribers) for the first time on Jan. 13 following the violent attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, announced a week ago that it would extend this suspension by seven days.

The US platform, owned by Google, has been criticized for the slowness of its response, compared to the more radical measures taken by other social networks. YouTube has simply suspended the distribution of new videos on the former president’s official network.

“In light of concerns about the continuing possible acts of violence, the Donald J Trump chain will continue to be suspended,” a YouTube spokeswoman told Politico.

YouTube confirmed to AFP on Tuesday that it had temporarily prevented Rudy Giuliani from benefiting from its “partner” program because he repeatedly failed to respect the platform’s rules on disinformation during the US election.

The attorney, whose chain has 600,000 subscribers, will no longer have access to certain features and will no longer be able to receive money from the ad slots that air before the videos.

The 76-year-old former New York City mayor, who is also at risk of being expelled from the New York Bar Association, fueled conspiracy theories by ensuring that the election was rigged in favor of Trump’s rival, Democrat Joe Biden.
