FLORENCE, AZ – Two escapees from Arizona State Prison Complex-Florence have been detained, officials have confirmed.
On Thursday, Coolidge police received several phone calls from residents regarding the escapees.
Authorities have been looking for David Harmon and John Charpiot since the two escaped from the state prison in Florence on Saturday.
Police posted on Facebook Thursday morning that the two have been taken into custody and are awaiting transport back to the Department of Corrections.
US Marshals officials say two deputy marshals involved in the search were driving in the Coolidge area when they heard a police radio about a malfunction in a nearby cotton field.
When they arrived minutes later, they found the two fugitives. The deputy marshals had to taser the men to take them into custody, officials said.
According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Charpiot was convicted of child and sexual abuse and entered prison in 2011 to serve 35 years. Harmon was taken to prison in 2012 and served a total of 100 years. His convictions include kidnapping and second-degree burglary.
In a tweet Tuesday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Harmon and Charpiot tried to rob a Florence company on Saturday. The couple had apparently changed their appearance when they tried to evade the authorities.
A $ 70,000 reward was offered for information that led to the men’s arrest.
