Kelly Dodd is no stranger to controversy, but she hated being a ‘victim’ of the so-called ‘cancellation culture’.
“Kelly, it was so disappointing to see you protesters calling looters,” a fan of Andy Cohen asked at the Real Housewives of Orange County reunion Wednesday night. “As a Mexican-American, don’t you think you have a responsibility to stand behind your marginalized communities?”
“Listen, I have nothing to do with protesting … Peaceful protests – I’m all for it,” replied Dodd, 45,. “But that was on a completely different level that I saw in New York. There was looting. Buildings had been burned to the ground and I don’t think that’s the way to protest. “
Cohen, 52, went on to bring up Dodd’s next social media gaffe of 2020: posting a photo at her bridal shower wearing a hat that read “Drunk Wives Matter.” When asked if she understood why people were upset, Dodd said the hat was two years old and it was a gift.
“There were a lot of drunk women at the party,” Elizabeth Lyn Vargas offered, while Dodd explained that there was no intention to mock the Black Lives Matter movement.
Dodd did allow her to see how the hat could have offended people after Braunwyn Windham-Burke pushed her before going on the attack.
“I wasn’t malicious and I’m being attacked by this cancellation culture which is a bunch of haters who would never have a vote and here they come together and [coming] after me, ”she said.
It’s not just haters, though. They are people who have been oppressed, ”Windham-Burke, 43, intervened.
“Four of my best friends are African American and they weren’t offended,” Dodd shouted, adding, “It’s whites who did!”
Dodd also confirmed that she is black, but she does not identify as a black person.
Earlier in the episode, Dodd’s 28-man marriage to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal became a similar point of contention when she told Cohen she was having a wedding because of the pandemic.
“I’m glad I did because nobody got sick and it was beautiful,” she said.
Cohen then read a fan question asking the women if they thought Dodd’s marriage was irresponsible.
“It was not necessarily irresponsible if everyone was tested,” Vargas replied.
“But is it okay to protest?” Dodd intervened. Anyone can protest and hear from a billion people? But I can’t have a festive wedding? “
It’s unclear whether the Windham-Burke and Dodd drama will be set in the next season of “RHOC,” as Dodd said she would quit the show if the first one saw her again.
