Sofia Dmitrieva and Alija Merdeeva are suspended for life due to rigging

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirmed that two Russian tennis players Sofia Dmitrieva and Alija Merdeeva Banned from sports for life after an investigation by matchfixing.

Both tennis players double partners in two of the competitions studied, “it is permanently prohibited to play or attend a recognized tennis event or sanctioned by tennis governing bodies, ”the ITIA said in a statement.

Merdeeva, which was 928th as her best singles-ranking and 644th in doubles, was involved in two incidents of match fixing. For his part, Dmitrieva, who reached 1191 and 939 positions in the WTA singles and doubles rankings, was involved in six match-fixing incidents and she was also accused of not cooperating with the investigation.

The two are penalized for violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program.
