When you little bastards get together, you’re like a sewing circle …
Last week, industry giant Konami announced it would be undergoing some sort of corporate restructuring, consolidating some of its internal divisions and redeploying its staff to better streamline its manufacturing division in response to a rapidly changing market. What it didn’t, however, was “close its gaming division.”
This was the word that quickly spread across the internet yesterday and surfaced all over social media, despite the actual announcement on Jan. 15. In response to this fast-spreading rumor, the longtime developer sent a hastily written official statement to IGN confirming that it will remain business as usual with Konami for the most part.
“The announcement made refers to an internal restructuring involving the consolidation of the production divisions,” the statement read. “We have not ‘closed’ our video game division.”
Essentially, these changes simply move several top executives into new roles, officially disbanding multiple production divisions and then restructuring into larger, separate divisions. The employees of each disbanded division are expected to all play a role in the new teams. Konami restructuring will take effect on February 1, 2021.
So don’t worry, Konami is still here not to make a new one Silent Hill.
