Tom Brady’s parents had a COVID-19 fight at the start of the NFL season

As Tom Brady begins to prepare for a 10th Super Bowl in his career, his parents had an even bigger battle earlier this season.

Tom Brady Sr. revealed on Monday that he and his wife, Galynn, had both contracted COVID-19 in the fall and were both “sick as a dog.”

“When the season started this year, I was in the hospital with COVID for nearly three weeks and my wife was sick with COVID at the same time,” said Brady Sr. Monday on ESPN’s “#Greeny”.

“We haven’t even seen the first two games of the year. They were the first two games I ever missed of his career because I was sick as a dog and my wife sick as a dog.

“We’ve never missed a game in Michigan or New England or anywhere. For the first two games, when I was in the hospital, I didn’t even care if they played, let alone missed the game. It was a matter of life and death, just like anyone who goes to the hospital. Those are serious things. “

Brady Sr. said his son was “stressed” trying to make sure his parents were doing well in California when he started the season with a new team in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers’ quarterback tried to FaceTime his father daily on his way to and from the practice, according to Brady Sr.’s sister. Brady, a nurse, was on hand to care for their mother, a cancer survivor.

“Tommy fought his way through it,” Brady Sr. said. “Now it’s in the rearview mirror. We are healthy, we are happy and everything is fine.

‘We’re just a representative of 25 million Americans who’ve had this stuff to date. It’s nothing to shake a stick at. It took the backseat to the football season. On the other hand, Tommy still had to show up, everyone has to show up. “

Whether the Brady family plans to be in Tampa to see Tom chase a seventh Super Bowl ring?

“We certainly hope so,” said Brady Sr., pointing out that they would be “extra careful” during the pandemic. “It’s just a matter of putting together the travel plans.”
