COVID Live Updates: Breastmilk May Help Fight Coronavirus, Researchers Say

NEW YORK (WABC) – Research is in its infancy, but there is some evidence that human milk may contain antibodies that may help fight severe cases of COVID-19.

The studies are being conducted at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Laura Ward says there is already evidence that breast milk contains antibodies that help protect against lower respiratory problems.

The new research is one of the reasons new mothers who have contracted COVID-19 are encouraged to continue breastfeeding their child.

However, bacteria and viruses can also be transmitted through breast milk, so some doctors do not recommend this.
