The theater collective Agua, Sol y Sereno celebrated the San Sebastián Street Parties in a different way and in accordance with the situation the world is experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic: virtually via Facebook and Youtube.
On this first day of the series of events called “Virtual Salute to the San Sebastián Street Festivities 2021”, a tribute was paid to the artist, teacher, writer and political expression, Elizam Escobar, who recently passed away. In addition, a big head made in his honor premiered this week in Agua, Sol y Sereno’s workshop.
The first part of the festival was a combination of original music created with lyrics from Escobar’s writings, dance, poetry and interpretation to honor the life of the deceased artist.
“Today we pay a special tribute to a dear friend who has just passed away… Elizam Escobar, who has always lived free despite his 20 years in prison, ”announced Pedro Adorno, director and co-founder of Agua, Sol y Sereno.
The second part of the show consisted of a tour of the grounds of the Agua Sol y Sereno workshop in Santurce. Stilt walkers and big heads joined Héctor “Tito” Matos and the group La Maquina Insular to make the parade through the streets of the Trastalleres de Santurce sector.
This was the first of three parades scheduled this weekend and the next, which they have dubbed “Virtual Greeting to the San Sebastian Street Festivals 2021”.

Adorno stressed that although this year was different due to the health situation experienced as a result of the pandemic, the spirit of the celebration has not diminished and that is why the theatrical group that has always ‘been present at judicial and village activities’ Don’t miss a special date for Puerto Ricans.
The activity will continue this weekend, when on Saturday, January 30th at 5pm the musician Héctor “Atabal” Rodríguez will be honored with a troupe that will depart from another place in San Juan and include the participation of the musician’s son, Caymmi Rodríguez and the Atabal group .
While on Sunday, January 31 at 3 p.m. Agua, Sol y Sereno pays tribute to the anthropologist and historian Ramón López.
