José Juan Barea signs to play in the Spanish League with the Movistar Estudiantes team

Madrid.- The Movistar Estudiantes team, a team from the Spanish basketball league, has reached an agreement with Puerto Rican base José Juan “JJ” Barea to join this team until the end of the season.

“JJ Barea will arrive in Madrid this week to participate in Movistar Estudiantes training. So you fulfill a small personal purpose been in the Spanish press ten years ago: play in the land of their ancestors, residents of Ribota de Sajambre (León) ”, the team’s press release indicates.

Barea, 36, is an institution in the NBA, and especially in the Dallas Mavericks: He was essential in his only championship ring, having achieved in 2011 with German Dirk Nowitzki against the Miami Heat, the club said in its statement.

In his 14 consecutive seasons in the NBA (between 2006 and 2020), there were 11 in two phases with the Texas franchise, signing a contract at the beginning of this season that ended in December.

In his other three NBA seasons, he defended the Minnesota Timberwolves jersey (2011-2014), with a total of 831 games in the regular season and 50 in the playoffs.

Barea is also one of the stars of the Puerto Rico team, winning gold medals at the 2011 Pan American Games, the 2006 and 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games; and silver from the 2007 Pan American Games.
