The Return of the Puerto Rican Jose Juan Barea court could happen next week and it wouldn’t be in the NBA.
El Nuevo Día has learned that the Puerto Rican canastero is about to reach an agreement with the Estudiantes club in the Spanish ACB League to make its basketball debut in Europe.
After being released from the Dallas Mavericks prior to the start of this season in the NBA last December – but with a $ 2.6 million guaranteed contract – the national team’s point guard did not rule out the opportunity to play in Spain although his priority was to return to the enebeist league.
As it turned out, the Estudiantes club made an offer to the 36-year-old Canastero veteran in recent days, and the deal could be realized this weekend. Apparently, the Mayagüezano wants to stay active in court without losing hope of a call from an NBA organization in February.
Barea, who has a total of 14 NBA seasons, is moving to a club looking to improve its performance and rise to the middle of the standings in the ACB. Students have a record of 5-11 and are in 15th place of the 19 participating teams. Real Madrid is the leader with 16-1.
Barea would travel to Madrid next week to join the team and make his debut on January 30 in a match against Acunsa GBC.
The student leader is Javier Zamora.
Puerto Rican Gian Clavell played with Estudiantes in the 2018/19 season.
