Maryland Representative Andy Harris said he had tried to drop a gun on the floor of the house

US Capitol Police are investigating a report that Maryland Representative Andy Harris tried to bring a gun into the room of the House on Thursday. “The USCP is investigating the matter,” officials confirmed to CBS Baltimore.

According to a story in HuffPost, Harris, a Republican, turned off metal detectors while trying to enter, after which a guard saw the hidden gun with the help of a metal detector.

House members may carry firearms on Capitol grounds, but not on the House floor.

Officers refused to let Harris in, so he left and returned without the gun, after which he was allowed on the floor, HuffPost said.

After the deadly riot at the Capitol on January 6, new security measures were taken, including the metal detectors.

CBS Baltimore contacted Harris’s office but hadn’t heard back late Thursday night.
