(Reuters) – Moderna Inc said Tuesday it had received a report from the California health department that several people were being treated at a center in San Diego for possible allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine from a particular batch.
The company’s comments come after California’s top epidemiologist released a statement on Sunday recommending that providers vaccinate lot No. 41L20A because of potential allergic reactions under investigation.
“A higher than normal rate of possible allergic reactions was reported with a specific lot of Moderna vaccine administered at one local vaccination clinic. Fewer than 10 individuals required medical attention in the space of 24 hours,” the epidemiologist said in a statement here. .
The vaccine maker said it was not aware of similar cases of side effects from other vaccination centers that may have administered vaccines from the same batch or from other batches of the vaccine.
A total of 307,300 doses from the batch remain, Moderna said, out of a total of 1,272,200 doses produced in the batch.
Moderna said it worked closely with US health regulators to understand the cases and whether it was justified to discontinue use of the lot.
Nearly one million doses of the lot have already been distributed to about 1,700 vaccination sites in 37 states, Moderna said. (bit.ly/39MPtlF)
