SLO County reports 127 new COVID-19 cases, 4 additional deaths

San Luis Obispo County is reporting the deaths of another four people who had COVID-19.

Public health officials say the patients were between 70 and 100 years old.

In San Luis Obispo County, 140 people have been killed by COVID-19.

The county also added 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county’s total to 16,056 confirmed cases on Jan. 20.

It is the lowest number of daily cases since the beginning of the year. At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Dr. Penny Borenstein, SLO County Public Health officer, said that although the county began to see fewer new cases, they are still very high compared to the spring and summer.

She added that nearly a quarter of all cases in the province have occurred in the past 14 days.

Health officials say 55 people have been hospitalized. Another 2,398 people are recovering at home and health officials say 13,429 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County reports that 18 of the county’s 38 accredited and staffed ICU beds are currently occupied. Seven of these have been taken by COVID-19 patients.

The location of 84 additional cases is being investigated, and a further nine are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
