In December 2019, Mara Patricia Castañeda interviewed Vicente Fernández on his ranch in Mexico. During the conversation, the singer raised the subject of his alleged infidelity to his wife María del Refugio Abarca Villaseñor, with whom he has been married for about 56 years.

In October of the same year, Fernández apologized to the LGBTQ + community for his controversial statements: “I was unconscious when the problem was, but I have a lot of gay friends. I feel very proud because at the end of the day we are all human ”.
