The Angels have reached an agreement with left-handed
Quintana, 31, is entering his 10th Major League-season after previous stints with the White Sox and Cubs. The left-handed appeared in just four games (and just one start) in 2020 after tearing his left thumb at the start of summer camp, an injury that necessitated surgery. Prior to that, Quintana was a quality workhorse starter for both Chicago clubs, with at least 30 starts per year from 2013-19.
Quintana, who will be reunited with former Cubs manager Joe Maddon in Anaheim, holds a career record of 83-77 with an ERA of 3.73.
The Angels will hope that the addition of Quintana will bring a stabilizing force in a rotation that desperately needs it. Adding quality starters was a task that sat on top of new general manager Perry Minasian’s off-season to-do list after the Halos’ rotation posted the second worst ERA in the Majors in 2020. In ’19, Los Angeles saw only one pitcher (Trevor Cahill) pitch even 100 innings.
