SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) – According to local police, a father and his 12-year-old daughter, both from Macomb Township, were killed in a car accident involving a commercial truck.
The deadly crash happened at around 6:15 PM on Tuesday in the Van Dyke and 21 Mile Road area. A Dodge Ram truck driven by the father and a commercial vehicle collided inside the intersection, police say. The Dodge was completely engulfed in flames.
Inside the Dodge was a 45-year-old father and his two children, both 12 years old. One of the 12-year-olds, a girl, died in the crash along with the father. The other 12-year-old child is in hospital with serious injuries.
An initial investigation revealed that the Dodge truck was heading north over Van Dyke and turning left onto 21 Mile Road. The commercial truck was heading south on Van Dyke and was passing through the intersection at 12 Mile Road when the collision occurred.
The driver of the company car was unharmed, police say. He was interviewed on the spot and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
