These are busy days for Rafael Santos Borré, although it is not exactly the competition.
The Colombian is negotiating with River Plate on the continuity of a contract that expires in June, while analyzing other offers and even attempting to clear a foreign quota, if this helps to unblock the situation.
In the first point, the player is legally entitled to listen to offers at this point. In any case, the negotiations are going through Atlético de Madrid, as the Argentines hold 50 percent of the rights and the Spaniards hold the other half.
And faced with this panorama, the first rumors come from Brazil. According to journalist Mauro Sant Anna, the attacker was presented to Flamengo, one of the greats in that country and who could need an attacker of his characteristics. The fact is, that would require one of two conditions to be met: wait for his current contract to expire or pay the $ 30 million clause. The latter option does not seem feasible for Brazilians or practically any other suitor, given the crisis conditions in the market.
Therefore, the option that is urgent for River, under penalty of losing his investment, is to convince him to stay through bonuses, salary improvement, and other benefits. And at that point, another advantage arises: the player’s foreigner status.
According to the newspaper Olé, Borré and Nicolás de la Cruz await the Argentine nationality process, but they have a problem, also under pressure from the pandemic: the passbook closes on February 11 and there will be a judicial vacancy until January 31, which means that time is very short and they may not release quota for foreigners this season. That would take away economic benefits from the Colombian in a possible renovation.
Borré’s future thus appears to be linked to River, but with more than one condition. Someone could be ‘fishing in a troubled river’ if he shows up with hard money, which is what the curious ‘millionaire’ team doesn’t have today.
