(CNN) – According to a Spirit Airlines spokesperson, two Spirit Airlines agents were injured and one was hospitalized after a three-passenger carry-on dispute turned violent on Sunday.
Flight 646 from Detroit to Atlanta boarded when agents asked passengers to verify that their carry-on bags were the correct size for the plane, Spirit Airlines spokesman Field Sutton told CNN.
The passengers then became “belligerent,” Sutton said, and the agents “tried to calmly defuse the situation but were physically attacked by these passengers when they closed a door to prevent them from boarding the plane.”
“This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place,” Sutton said.
“We at Spirit all wish the agents a speedy recovery and thank them for their courage and professionalism.”
According to spokeswoman Lisa Gass, Wayne County Airport Authority police have arrested two people and a third person was arrested and released.
All three passengers are no longer allowed to travel with the airline, Sutton said.
