The coach has a game plan for Sunday with and without Mahomes
KANSAS City, Mo. – The coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid said on Monday that he didn’t know if Patrick Mahomes He will be out of NFL concussion protocol in time to play the AFC Championship next Sunday. But Reid indicated Mahomes would have felt well enough to return to Sunday’s Divisional Round game.
After being hit and falling, Mahomes got up and staggered for a moment. He then headed for a brief examination in the medical tent before going to the Chiefs’ locker room at Arrowhead Stadium.
“There was a possibility,” Reid agreed. ‘You saw him running through the tunnel. By the time he arrived he was feeling pretty good. But there is a protocol that must be followed and that is up to the player, the coach and the doctor ”.
Mahomes was replaced in the third quarter by Chad Henne, representing the Chiefs’ 22-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs face the Buffalo Bills Sunday at Arrowhead in the AFC title game. Reid said they would have a plan if Mahomes or Henne started as a quarterback.
“Because of protocol, it’s a no-brainer from a coach’s point of view,” noted Reid. “You don’t have to think about that. You just have to go ahead and make sure you have an answer when it’s there and one when it’s not. I cannot tell you from a medical point of view. I do not know. That’s your decision and I’ll just follow it. “
