New York Jets new head coach Robert Saleh has taken on two offensive aides from the San Francisco 49ers. The former defensive coordinator has selected Niner’s passing match coordinator Mike LaFleur as his offensive coordinator and offensive line coach John Benton to serve in the same position with the added title of run-game coordinator. according to a report by Mike Silver of NFL Media.
The 49ers will be promoting Chris Foerster, currently the team’s game planning assistant, to become the offensive line coach and has re-hired Rich Scangarello as the quarterback coach. What will come of quarterbacks coach Shane Day is unknown.
Foerster was an assistant coach on the offensive line last year and will return to the role he held for the 49ers under Jim Tomsula in 2015. He took over in Miami as their offensive line coach for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Scangarello was head coach Kyle Shanahan’s first quarterback coach with the 49ers before becoming the Broncos offensive coordinator in 2018. He was fired after one season and joined the Eagles as an offensive assistant. His return seemed imminent after he left Philadelphia and an exodus of offensive coaches from the 49ers seemed likely.
